KESSNER

CIRCUS ARTIST

Izzi Kessner (they/them) is a circus artist originally from Los Angeles, and currently based in Quebec City. They specialize in aerial rope and acro dance; however, Izzi is well versed in many other aspects of circus arts, including group acrobatics, aerial straps, hoop, silks, and dance.

They are interested in questioning traditional form and practice in their circus storytelling, and exploring how aspects of their transgender identity informs their creation.

Izzi has performed across the United States, Canada, and Sicily.  In 2022, they collaborated with Nike for Nike’s Air Max campaign.  They were featured on the front page of Nike.com, as well as on their app and social media pages.

Izzi is passionate about circus as a performer, researcher, and educator.  Since 2023, they have worked with CRITAC (a circus research institution in Montreal) for their research project on chest binding in circus.  With this project, they traveled to Bogota in February 2024, to present their research at the Circus and Its Others conference.

Izzi also coaches circus professionally, teaching workshops and classes around the US.  They currently serve as a Board Member of the American Youth Circus Organization/American Circus Educators.
